Longest (and hottest) ride of the year!

What is with this heat!? Had a club ride today, a 75 miler that started at 9:00a. It was already 87 degrees at the time with 65% humidity. As the ride went on, it got hotter, and naturally, the wind increased, switched direction (it always seems to, doesn't it?) and we were heading face into it all the way back. At the end of the ride, it was 98 degrees with a steady 15mph headwind.

Only seven fools, er, I mean cyclists, showed up for the ride, but as we're all pretty equal in ability, we kept pretty close and dutifuly took our turns at the front. We even managed to break into a few sprints for city limit signs.  Somehow, we still averaged 18.2 mph for the ride even with the wind and the heat and the breaks. This is a pretty fast group though, but I was still a bit surprised.

I went through at least 5-24oz bottles of water, two 24oz bottles of Powerade and another 24oz bottle of sports drink, 1 1/2 jumbo Pearson Salted Nut rolls and a half of a Subway Turkey sub.

All in all, a great ride

It has been hot! Ironically, you up there in MN are hotter than we are down south here in Indiana!

    Hey there!

Don't be speechless :) It wasn't that bad actually. It's pretty funny when, looking back to 2 years ago, 7.5 miles would have been an accomplishment. The worst part of the ride wasn't the heat or the miles, it was the fricking wind. We had a head wind for probably the last 40 miles (which were also the hottest).

    Later!
